GCC 3.0 Freeze

Please cease any and all activity on the branch at this time.

I am now going to make a final set of prerelease tarballs, which
should be available in a few hours.  Final tarballs will be created
later this evening.  I will post a formal announcement when they have
made propagated to mirrors.  Please do *not* send me mail asking "is
this release available?" -- you'll know when it is.

If you have outstanding patches on the branch, that have been 
approved, but not checked in, please go ahead and check them in.

If you have patches which have not been approved, but which you think
are *absolutely critical* please send them to me.  I can't quite
imagine what I would approve at this point, but you can always try.

The branch will remain frozen until the SC decides how to proceed with
the 3.0.1.  We need to know what the precise goals are for 3.0.1
before we can decide how to handle it.  I believe that an announcement
will be made in the next week or so -- but please do not make any
check-ins on the branch until then.  Just keep track of what's
important to you; there's no need to communicate it to me yet.

Thank you all for your *incredibly* hard work on the release.  The
effort over the last few weeks was absolutely amazing; I know that
many of you gave up evenings, weekends, and your "real jobs" to help
out.  It has been my privilege and my honor to work with each and
every one of you.  I hope that you are proud of what you have
achieved, and I look forward to working with you all again on the
*next* release of GCC.
