This does indeed fix the main issues. What's left are just the issues
only applying to a release proper:
* Updating all the ChangeLogs on the branch just before tagging for the
release.
* Changing all the [vV]ersion.c files (all those updated by
update_version) to give status as "release" not "prerelease" or
"experimental", for the release only, then changing them back to 3.0.1
"prerelease" on the branch just afterwards.
* Of course, the release needs to have an appropriate tag in the
repository.
(I needed to make the files in question world-readable on gcc.gnu.org - so
perhaps the script should also ensure they get the appropriate permissions
there.)
