I looked at this stuff about a year ago and didn't get as far as you.
I was looking at the x-host fragments, and tried to move some
decisions into configure, but then gave up. It was too horrible.
I guess I don't want to pick up the ball, but I do appreciate what
you've done. The current configury stuff is far beyond baroque.
