Re: Compilation problems w/ 2.95.3 on Sun Solaris 2.5.1 (fully patched)

I don't believe the linker on Solaris-2.5.1 is broken. The linker patch
is in place:

103627 15 CURRENT SunOS 5.5.1: Linker patch

I've compiled everything from perl to every version of gcc from 2.95.2
and below w/ no problems. I've even recompiled gcc-2.95.2 to see
whether I get the same error @ the location mentioned below. Not
applicable. Did anyone tested the compilation on Solaris-2.5.1
(fully-patched OS)? It doesn't look like it, otherwise you and the gcc
group would've seen this problem and fixed it. GNU's ld and as isn't
recommended to be used on Solaris, for their linker and assembler is
broken, even though there are admins that use it. I don't.

This is indeed a bug within 2.95.3. You don't want to admit it because
your group doesn't have the resources to test on Solaris-2.5.1. Solaris'es
linker and assembler isn't broken. I'm speculating testing was done on
Solaris-2.6 and above. Until this is fixed I'll be using 2.95.2, which hasn't
caused me any headaches.

When will gcc have the ability to compile in 64-bit mode? Unfortunately
there are apps that I have to compile in 64-bit mode to work, and noone
wants to use Forte 6.0 (Sun SPARCompilers C & CC).
