This looks like you're trying to use "make install" after "make"
failed to build everything fine. make install can only be used after a
successful "make".

Once you have a successfully built gcc, not yet installed, you can avoid the problem in the install step by setting
CC='<your gcc build directory>/xgcc -B<your gcc build directory>'
