i'm not sure i'll get the patch submitted today.  my local copy is a ways 
off from the svn version because of my patches.  however, i could include 
the diff's in an email by hand since there are only a few of them and it 
should be easy to paste them in.  otherwise, i'll wait for my other 
patches to get committed.  preferences?
