GCC Steering Committee
The GCC Steering Committee is made up of long serving leadership from the project with membership and status documented here: https://gcc.gnu.org/steering.html
- Members of the SC are appointed with the agreement of all current SC members and the Chief GNUisance (or an assistant GNUisance).
- The SC decides strategic issues of relevance to the community.
- The SC is only active when an issue is raised.

The SC has the following processes that it helps run for the community:
- Reviewing Maintainer nominations.
- Accepting major contributions to GCC, such as new front-ends, new backends, new optimization passes, major implementation revisions.
- Appointing Release Managers and technical leads.
- Defining policies and procedures for the Release Managers and technical leads, including delegation of authority and access to the source code repository.
The normal voting period is two weeks (14 days).
Maintainer Nomination Review and Approval
Nomination Process
GCC Steering Committee Members are listed on the GCC Website with contact information listed in the GCC MAINTAINERS file.
- A GCC Steering Committee Member will take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of a nomination or proposal, including announcing an appointment of a nominee or acceptance of a proposal.
The nomination or proposal will be raised within the GCC Steering Committee, additional information gathered, issue discussed, issue voted, disposition reported to the person who initiated the issue, any public decision announced.
