Brace yourselves, readers! The new year brings ample opportunities for
building
your 'to be read' lists and piles, and taking on one of many reading
challenges
offered by bloggers, podcasts and other reading groups. Amy Shamroe has
identified a few challenges for you to explore, and of course, we have a
number
of books for you to review and add to your TBR lists. Take a look at this
month's REVIEW DIRECT [1]  [2]selections, and consider some of these fine
independently published books for your own TBR lists.

	RESOLVE TO READ

	A recent study found almost 65% of people give up on their resolutions
within
the first month. Statistically, most of us are giving up now. That said,
resolutions don't have to be about drastically changing your life.
Sometimes, it
can be as simple as changing your approach to things you already do. One
such
resolution could be to challenge HOW you read your books. Here are some
ideas to
spice up your 2019 To-Read list.  

PopSugar Reading Challenge 

	If you are looking for a lot of variety and flexibility, this is one is
perfect. Assignments are as general as a ghost story to the more random,
like a
title you see a character reading in a tv show or movie.

 [4]Bookish 2019 Reading Challenge [5] 

	Living up to their name Bookish has a fifty-two ideas to whittle down your
To
Be Read pile. This list is for the more literary inclined, but you don't
need a
Ph.D to tackle it, with topics ranging from a book translated from Spanish
to a
novel with recipes in it. 

	 [6]READING WOMEN CHALLENGE [7] 

	The Reading Women podcast created a reading challenge for the year. Items
include a lot of diversity such as author's origins, genre of read, and
type of
read. This is a great list to chip away at the literary bias organizations
like
VIDA have been fighting for years while giving you options to keep it
interesting. 

	 [8]CALENDAR OF CRIME [9] 

	Bookstr introduced My Reader's Block's Calendar of Crime for 2019 to a
wider
audience. Each month has one unique challenge, like a specific location,
and
eight that can be selected month to month, like an author born in that
month.
While this was intended for mystery/true crime readers, it could be adapted
for
any genre or whatever you are in the mood to read.
