Debugging STL containers

Jonathan, Joe,

Thank you both for the advice.

Like most C++ developers, I'm inclined to treat the STL as a black box.

I had sort of deferred looking into this until now, getting by using a
simple technique that is analogous to printf debugging. However, a
somewhat complicated problem necessitated the use of nested maps, and
it seemed too tedious to apply this method. However, I eventually
braved through it because I had to.

I'm using a graphical front-end for GDB (the Netbeans IDE with C++
extensions). I've used DDD in the past.

It seems to me that because the STL has such great utility, making it
debugable as I've described should be a priority for GDB/libstdc++
development.

I've done some more googling since I sent my initial mail, and what
little information was available suggested that it was unlikely that
this would ever happen.

Thanks again,
Peter
