I would suggest getting ahold of the sources, then replace the
config/cpu/os/atomicity.h bits with the config/cpu/generic/atomicity.h
without the mutexes. 5 minutes of work. And rebuild and benchmark. That
will give you a precise idea of what we can obtain if we prepare a
configuration option as per you PR request.
