Huh.

Do we have different versions of DejaGNU?

$ runtest --version
WARNING: Couldn't find the global config file.
Expect version is       5.38.0
Tcl version is          8.3
Framework version is    1.4.4

Here's me running just the 17_intro tests:

===

runtest --tool libstdc++ normal.exp="`cd
/src/gcc-mainline/libstdc++-v3/testsuite && find 17_intro -name '*.cc'`"

...

                 === libstdc++ Summary ===

# of expected passes            46

===

And here's me running the entire testsuite, using the default
testsuite_files, as produced by the Makefile.

===

runtest --tool libstdc++ normal.exp="`cat testsuite_files`"

...

                 === libstdc++ Summary ===

# of expected passes            3620
# of unexpected successes       2
# of expected failures          7

===

I'm going to kick off a completely from-scratch build on another machine
to see if I can replicate your problem. The only local change I have is
the patch I posted to rename some variables "libstdc++_" to "v3-", which
Gaby has just approved.
