Sorry: maybe I should have been more clear in the bug report, but this
is only a major problem for i*86-pc-mingw. I beleive Cygwin uses POSIX
threads by default, not Win32 threads, so I don't think this will affect
normal Cygwin builds (but it would if the builder selected
--enable-threads=win32).
