Steven, you should be careful.  You are arguing with many of the 
persons who actually wrote and/or maintain the standard.  Your echoes 
of the opinions of (undoubtedly) accomplished, but anonymous, 
individuals carry little weight against the direct personal experience
of your correspondents, many of whom are probably personally acquainted
with the authorities you have drawn upon.  You are getting very close 
to being recognized (however unfairly) as a bad listener, and therefore 
irrelevant.

The best course now would be to go back to the beginning of the thread,
and read all the responses very, very carefully, to discover what 
nuances you have missed.  We all have similar goals, and this is a
place to discuss rationally how to achieve them.  If your favorite
method doesn't garner the cooperation it needs, you need to list all 
the alternatives, and consider how to gain support for one of the 
others instead.
