I'm afraid the patch doesn't help. Notice how I wrote
"*Maybe* doing sth. like [... helps]". I didn't get around to have a look on 
the bootstrap result until now. It still failed with my patch.

http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/libstdc++/2003-05/msg00103.html has a tested patch.
