When I tried to compile 22_locale/num_put_members_char.cc by hand, I
get link failures for __convert_from_v functions.  If I link with
-static, it worked.  The corresponding symbols in the archive lib are
'T', but the symbols in the shared lib are 't', so not being made
externally visible.  Is this helpful?
