New testsuite fails on PA

I'm strongly suspecting the compiler, basing on two facts:

1- At least some of these appear also on x86_64 (see Andreas reports)
   and this morning I have built and tested on x86_64 a current library
   with a compiler a few days old with *no* new fails.

2- The failures are *really* in unrelated areas, some definitely not
   touched recently!

I'll keep you updated in case I discover something more...
