V3 vs. symbol versions

When trying to rebuild V3, I get:

/usr/bin/ld: .libs/libstdc++.so.5.0.1: undefined versioned symbol name 
std::time_put_w@@GLIBCPP_3.2
/usr/bin/ld: failed to set dynamic section sizes: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

What does this mean?  My binutils are stock Red Hat 7.2.

bash-2.05$ ld --version
GNU ld 2.11.90.0.8
