Getting dejagnu working is probably wise.

However, if you are just testing C++ other options also exist. 
Mark and Codesourcery have done the QMTest tool:

Also, the libstdc++ tests can be run with a bash script, using the 'make
check-script' and 'make check-script-install' hooks.
