Steve, I have added both patches to my bootstrap tree and unified the
ChangeLog entry.  Please allow me to consider them for a while (I
agree that they look obvious) but I will commit them or reply within
24 hours.  I like to personally bootstrap all such changes.

I assume that without these patches, bootstrap is broken somewhere?  I
am on a platform that does not define _GLIBCPP_USE_WCHAR_T yet has
wchar_t (thus I don't see a problem).
