You are absolutely correct about the history of the situation. I
forgot about this proposal.
Since your patch only affects your port and you obvious know best how
to tweak settings, I can find no reason to reject it. ;-)
Applied to mainline, please confirm that it works there and then
I will transfer to the release branch for you:
-j1.8 -j1.9 libstdc++-v3/config/os/hpux/bits/os_defines.h
