Severe problems debugging c++ code (g++ 3.0)

Yes, I have this as a high priority bug report in GNATS PR debug/2984.

I think it's unacceptable to ship a compiler where you cannot debug
properly, and this is a regression from 2.95, which is why I have it
as high priority.
