solaris patch

Sigh.  On the CHECK_LINKER_FEATURES hunk of the patch I just sent, which
just comments out the test for --gc-sections, a 'fi' didn't get commented
correctly.  This leads to a very confusing error when running 'configure'.
(I was using a cached version by mistake when I tested that commenting.)

The other three hunks are fine; they make the libio changes.

Best just to ignore that first hunk.  We can test for a GC'ing linker even
if we don't use one.


That's what I get for bootstrapping on an empty stomach.
