AIX status

first-tier.  I think it's clear that some systems (say x86 GNU/Linux)
are first-tier, and some (say NCR MP-RAS) are not.

Then, we come to AIX specifically.  To me, the driving force is that
AIX is used by a lot of people.  Therefore, providing GNU tools there
is important to me -- it's a chance for us to make those tools
available to lots of people.

It would be nice if there were actually a project-wide definition of
first-tier platforms; then each individual maintainer/committee would
not have to decide this problem.
