Yes, FreeBSD (with ELF) builds have been broken for a week.

You need to update your sources past this gcc/ChangeLog entry:

2000-06-07  David O'Brien  <obrien@FreeBSD.org>

        * configure.in:  Adjust FreeBSD bits to match changes to config.guess.
        We now default to ELF for the i386, and a.out is the special case.
        * configure:  Rebuilt.

[Not actually installed until some point today.]

Or before this ./ChangeLog entry:

        * config.guess: Updated to latest version.
        * config.sub: Likewise.

Or you need to explicitly pass this triple to configure:
