That is certainly useful. I typically find them by searching for binutils
announcements in the GCC mailing lists, as in

You don't need up-to-date binutils. If you had never updated the
binutils you got with your Linux distribution, instead of using one of
HJ Lu's intermediate snapshots after 2.9.5.0.20, it would work just
fine. I don't think it is wise to claim that these snapshots are
prerequisite for GCC operation - they are not.
