patch: testsuite std namespace safe

I would like to actually start using namespaces for this next snapshot. I 
propose using "-fnew-abi" when building the library. 

Since this is a pretty big change, I was wondering what people thought. 
Any comments from people currently using v-3 with namespaces?

I'm going to be doing some autoconf stuff later in the week: I'll fix
