information required

I'm going to participate in a programming competition and we've to programmed
on a linux workstatioon and GCC installed on them, so what I need now is sum
sort of know-how of the gcc platform(as a matter of fact i've worked on VC++
and turbo C++ but i think gcc is a bit different) so could u gcc gurus help
me out for this?
Yes, and it is on Sunday 14th may so its now or never for me, any help would
be highly appericiated.
