Thank you! It seems to work. I'm now testing a patch
based around this change:
- ----------------------------- 8< -----------------------------
Index: libgcj.spec.in
===================================================================
- --- libgcj.spec.in      (revision 115112)
+++ libgcj.spec.in      (working copy)

 # It is used to specify the standard libraries we need in order
 # to link with libgcj.
 #
+%rename libgcc libgccorig
+*libgcc: @THREADLIBGCCSPEC@ %(libgccorig)
+
 %rename lib liborig
 *lib: @LD_START_STATIC_SPEC@ -lgcj @LD_FINISH_STATIC_SPEC@ -lm
@LIBICONV@ @GCSPEC@ @THREADSPEC@ @ZLIBSPEC@ @SYSTEMSPEC@ %(libgcc)
%(liborig)

Thanks,
Ranjit.
