This post from the FSF took us by surprise a little bit, so
unfortunately at the moment we don't have a canned set of things folks
can do to help. And, worse, our expert on the situation -- Caolan
McNamara -- is on vacation.

You can see his most recent gcj-OOo status message here:

http://blogs.linux.ie/caolan/2005/05/04/70/

This has a few to-do items in it:

* gcj PR 17463 has been fixed, but I don't know if any corresponding
fix was done to OOo. This might be an item.

* Why do gcj and db4 not play well together? This would be great to
find out. Just yesterday I heard this complaint in another area,
  wikipedia:

* Fixing gcj PR 19870 would help both OOo and many other programs.
  Unfortunately this looks hard.

I would imagine another useful task would be just building OOo with
gcj, then trying java-using components and seeing what bugs you can
find. If there is more than one we can set up a meta-PR in the gcc
bugzilla to make it really easy to see what OOo stuff needs working
on.

My impression is that, generally, OOo-on-gcj is working well. But, I
still haven't tried it myself.
