generic support? status of bug 9861

I was wondering if anybody envisions a time when bug 9861 will be fixed?

The last comment is that an ABI change is needed to fix it, but I also
note that in november, a major ABI merge took place, but without this
bug being addressed.

This bug is absolutely critical for anybody doing much work with generics.
