Failure to build gcc cvs HEAD 20030915 on sparc-linux: undefined references...

I've had another report of a failure like this when building with -j,
but I was unable to reproduce.  So unfortunately I don't have a
theory.  I'd like to fix it, if only I knew what was wrong...
