compile question about dll of windows

I did this on Linux and didn't run into a command-line-length
limitation, but mingw32-ld choked in the same way. (mingw32-gcj
said ld was killed.)

I'm thinking this is a virtual memory problem. If anyone has a
more-powerful box, feel free to give this a shot. I'm going to
put this on hold for now.
