jni and static libgcj and friends?

I use "--disable-static" on my Powerbook to speed up the libgcj build 
(and stop it making a ~100MB libgcj.a) and it works (maybe I had to hack 
something slightly though). I still get the feeling the build is 
spending more time in libtool than in gcj, though!
