powerpc gcj crosscompiler with x86 host

hi all

is there anybody out there who has successfully build a powerpc cross 
toolchain for a x86 host system, INCLUDING java support (gcj with libgcj)?
i tried several different approach to do this, but always failed at some 
point. i'm fustrated and one step before giving up. i need this for my 
degree dissertaion.
or has anybody successfully tried a different approach? i just need a 
running embedded powerpc-linux target with java support.
