Could you arrange to have the testsuite simply not run in the meantime?

That would be much better than the current behavior.  Perhaps, simply
change the `check' target to do nothing, and rename it to
`real-check'?

I guess I'll try to do a `make install' and re-check the Java
libraries, but that means a re-configure and re-bootstrap, due to
currently having the default prefix...
