Handling High Priority Java PRs.

This is rather important to me.  I want to make a Kawa release,
making a big splash about the fact you can now compile Scheme
to native code using Gcj.  But if you can't compile with -O
(which used to work last time I tried it), it is harder to
make a big splash!
