Hi all,
Thank you very much for all your help with getting the latest (CVS)
version of gcj and libgcj working. Here are some tips if you want to
make this a little easier for others.
- Remove pointer to the gcc-2.95.2 patches from the download page since that
patch doesn't include inner class support so it cannot be used to compile
recent versions of libgcj and it doesn't work with libgcj 2.95.x versions.
- Add the contents of the README file from the rpm directory to the download
page. (It is not immediatly clear that ag-tools-1-4.i686.rpm contains gcj
and libgcj if you don't know who 'ag' is. Sorry Anthony Green.) Add a note
on setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/local/ag/lib. And tell that on Debian
you can use alien --to-deb to get a .deb file.
- Add a pointer to the build snapshots page on the download page.
- Mention that you should build both c++ and java if using --enable-languages
when building from cvs since (lib)gcj needs the new g++ compiler.
- Add a note to the FAQ about the __dso_handle problem with broken bin-utils
on Debian GNU/Linux Potato. (After configuring gcc, remove the definition
of HAVE_GAS_HIDDEN from auto-host.h before typeing make.
- Mentioned that you should look at the output of gcj -v to see if you run
the correct versions and that the spec points to the correct verion of
BOTH gcj and libgcj. (Is there a way to see the libgcj version?)
- Include a HACKING file in the libgcj directory with all this information
If you want I can make patches to the webpages.
Cheers,
Mark
P.S. Maybe someone could try to convince CodeSourcery to include gcj in their
pre-build CVS gcc binaries.
