I'm running glibc 2.0.something (I think something==7).

Try changing the PTHREAD_MUTEX_HAVE___M_COUNT case of
_Jv_PthreadCheckMonitor to read:

  int r = mu->__m_owner == pthread_self ();

Perhaps this optimization isn't worth all the effort we've put into
it.  Any opinions?  I wanted to make the Linux port a bit faster and
smaller, since I like Linux, but perhaps insulating ourselves against
change is a better strategy.

On the other hand, if the above works, then presumably we've navigated
through the problems and keeping it as-is is ok.
