gcj alternative to JNI?

Hello all,

I remember seeing a post here awhile back about gcj having an
alternative to JNI for doing native calls that is more efficeint but I
can't rememebr what its called.  Could anyone be able to point me to
some info on how this works or even what the speed-up is compared to JNI
?
