    This should have been fixed on the 3.0 branch and mainline
    as of 7/19:

    If you try a newer snapshot (none seems to be available yet)
    and find that the problem persists, let me know and I'll
    reopen the PR.
    
    In the meantime, you can use an explicit -g or -O as a
    workaround.
