The documentation at http://sources.redhat.com/java/compile.html
indicates taht gcj should be able to accept options like
-CLASSPATH and -classpath on the command line. With the
current compiler, they do not work:

$ gcj BitSetTest.java --classpath=$HOME/gcc/share/libgcj.zip -o bst --main=BitSetTest
cc1: Unrecognized option `-fclasspath=/home/bryce/gcc/share/libgcj.zip'
cc1: Unrecognized option `-fclasspath=/home/bryce/gcc/share/libgcj.zip'
