I really appreciate you doing that.  Given the moderate rate of news 
items, we might want to consider abandoning the Java news section and
use our general one instead?

(I'm also somewhat happy this patch didn't add any external links, for
readings.html and java/index.html probably are the two most prominent
places responsible for broken links over time, but I have cleaned up
most of these in recent weeks and plan to instantiate a more regular
checking system.)
