3.4 should work "out of the box".  With optimization turned on it tends 
to generate code that is about 10% smaller and faster (this is for a 
mips32 ISA target).

I would love to have to time to work on it, but unfortunately I am swamped.

You will note that the ABI is different depending on whether you are 
using hard or soft floating point.  I had been looking at fixing the 
testsuite failures I was seeing WRT floating point, but never had 
anything concrete to show for my efforts.

Keep up the good work!  I for one would like to be able to use the 
interpreter on MIPS o32.
