oh, sure. you want to install libpixman and libcairo. sources are at 
www.cairographics.org, just follow the normal install 
build/instructions. I think there might be dev packages kicking around 
by now for some of the distributions, but I don't know which.

the GdkGraphics2D still has a ways to go, however, so some things it 
still does worse than GdkGraphics. I just wanted to make it 
"enable-able" for people who want to hack on it.
