When rebuilding I found out that the jni Makefiles don't track
dependencies properly.  I had to remove the .o files and rebuild the
library to make this work in my existing build tree.

This will be fixed when we upgrade to automake 1.7.  There's no reason
to bother with it now.  But I thought I'd post a note in case anybody
else runs across this and is puzzled.
