Andrew,

I have the changes coded up and the code seems to be okay, but
I am running into a testing snag where stack traces hang.
This is most likely because my build environment isn't sane.

I am going to blow everything away and do a full build of the
current CVS pre- and post- my updated patch. If things check
out okay, I'll resubmit the patch later today.
