This patch could be a candidate.  I don't think it is really that
important though (as far as I know nobody has run into this, and
anyway this ICE only occurs for invalid code).

I think the general rule for 3.3.x releases is bug fixes only.
However there may be exceptions, like a new port.
We might want to try to stay binary compatible, too.  I'm not so sure.
