I think fixing important bugs via re-merging is fine now.
Wholesale re-merging needs to wait until 3.2 though.

This release has shown that we need to strengthen our regression
testing during the normal development cycle.  It might be possible for
us to get libgcj and Mauve included in Geoff's nightly testing.
Beyond that it would be really great to get volunteers to do automated
testing so we can ensure that existing platforms continue to work.
