I've had long-running server processes leak fds and run out of them.
That was in the olden days though, on SunOS, when fd limits were a lot
smaller.

Really, though, this patch is pretty pedantic.  It is very unlikely to
be a real concern.  That won't stop me from checking it in though :-)
