The standard answer works:

   google("gcc documentation")

It is usually faster for you to ask google (i've never see it take  
longer than around 500 ms to answer any question), we sometimes can  
take days.

You're in luck, the manual explains how to build gcc.

I use emacs, but seriously, identify what you want to do, pick  
something within your skill/comfort level, and just dig in.  I'd  
recommend gdb inside emacs to explore the gcc source code, once you  
get going.
